The following should be observed:
- Be prompt. Arrive before class begins. If you come in late, wait for permission to join practice. (Note: You may enter class late or leave early if needed due to your schedule)
- Always bow when entering or leaving the training area (dojo). Remove shoes before entering the dojo.
- At the start of class line up by rank (senior students to the left side).
- Bow to Sensei and any other black belts as a greeting and to show respect as you enter or leave the training area.
- Before and after a practice always bow to your partner.
- Don’t wear a watch, ear-rings, chains, rings, hair clasps or anything else hard or metal.
- Do not drink or eat in the dojo.
- Keep your fingernails and toenails clipped.
- Keep your Gi and body clean.
- Junior students are expected to look to seniors for guidance, imitate their behavior, and treat them with respect and consideration.
- Senior students are expected to set a good example for juniors, protect them from injury, help them learn, and treat them with respect and consideration.
- Do not teach any unrelated new techniques to other students unless asked to do so by your teacher.
- Never lose your temper during practice.
- Do not talk when the instructor is speaking to the class.
- If necessary, ask permission from the instructor to leave class earlier.
